My parents left me unsupervised with an uncensored catalogue of hip hop cassettes, a collection of kung-fu films, unrestricted access to the fashions archived in my grandmother’s closet, piles of Vogue magazine, and a copy of Madonna’s ‘Truth or Dare’ documentary. Thus, they unwittingly enabled me to conceive an imagination wilder than an evening at an N.W.A. afterparty.
